After we visited Schramm’s Mead, we headed over to Lockhart’s BBQ for dinner. It was super busy, but we had called ahead (about 20 minutes) and only ended up waiting for a few minutes once we arrived.
Their menu is huge! I ordered the Longhorn Brisket Sammy and Dave ordered the pulled pork sandwich. We both got deviled eggs for our side (which was included). The Longhorn Brisket Sammy was smoked brisket, topped with crispy onions, horseradish sauce, and pepper jack cheese. Both Dave and I were disappointed with our food. For starters, the deviled eggs lacked flavor and had an odd texture. We’re used to the filling being super smooth and creamy, and it was chunky and rough. Salt did help a bit.
I was also disappointed in my sandwich. The brisket was very tender, but had an weird flavor that I couldn’t place. Both the horseradish sauce and pepper jack cheese lacked the kick I was expecting. However, the crispy onions were quite tasty, best part of the whole meal. There were four different types of sauce on the table, but other than the mustard sauce, the other four were not really distinguishable from one another. With that being said, I thought the sauce (I chose the sweet) definitely helped cover up the weird flavor of my sandwich. The pulled pork on Dave’s sandwich was not really pulled, it arrived in large chunks that were awkward to eat and weren’t very tender either.
It was overall a disappointing meal especially since I was hoping for a Slow’s experience, which it did not even come close to. Wah wah…
