Recently, Dave and I had brunch at What Crepe? (we had a Groupon). I had heard mixed reviews of What Crepe? and was eager to try it for myself. I ordered the Monte Cristo, which was very similar to the sandwich (ham, turkey, swiss, raspberry sauce, powdered sugar) except it included spinach and was rolled in a crepe instead of fried. Overall, we thought (we split it) the Monte Cristo was good. The ham was a little chewy, but the flavor of the entire thing was good and the spinach ended up being a nice addition.
Dave ordered the What? Chocolate Eclair crepe, which we also split. The crepe was filled with creamy vanilla bean custard and topped with Nutella, shaved white chocolate, powdered sugar, coco powder, and whipped cream. First off, it was bit awkward to eat because as you cut the crepe up, the very soft (almost liquidy) custard oozed out all over the plate. Secondly, the white chocolate, which were crumbles rather than shaved pieces, totally overwhelmed the dish with its flavor and sweetness. I thought the Nutella flavor would be more prominent, but it was practically forgettable. That being said, overall I liked the dish, I just think it could be improved upon.
We thought the price of each crepe was a little on the high side (around $12), but we liked it enough that we’d probably try it again. They had an impressive drink menu so we might end up visiting during a future progressive dinner for drinks and appetizers or desserts.
