Monday night we took our first class with Tammy’s Tastings. The class was called Farm-to-Glass Cocktails and it was held at The Last Word. When we arrived, we received a Thyme Collins a twist on the class Tom Collins (gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and club soda). The thyme is steeped in the simple syrup. The overall effect was a light, refreshing, flavorful drink. Dave and I don’t even like gin, but we may have to change our tune after trying and liking several gin drinks during the class.
We started the hands-on portion of the class making a classic mojito. Two tables made the mojito and the other tables made an indochine. Each drink was poured into sample cups and swapped between tables so that everyone got a taste of each cocktail. In between cocktails, Tammy provided information about the ingredients, techniques, some history, and other interesting tidbits. During the class, we tried 12 different cocktails and made 5 of those. Below is a complete list:
- Thyme Collins
- Bourbon Cherry Smash
- Washington’s Cherry
- Cherry Bounce
- Tequila pi mor amanate (strawberry-infused tequila, great for margaritas)
- Tomato Kiss
- Kale Ginger Daiquiri
- Juliet & Romeo
- Kachumber Kooler
- Cucumber Lime Swizzle
My favorites of the evening were the mojito, bourbon cherry smash, cherry bounce (we’re making some tomorrow night!), and surprisingly the kale ginger daiquiri. I’m not saying I didn’t like the other cocktails, these were just my favorites.
I really enjoyed the class overall. Tammy did a great job with instruction as well as providing interesting information on each of the drinks. I would highly recommend her classes and I look forward to taking more in the future.
