I have tried previously to write a novel during National Novel Writing month, but I only lasted a couple of days and only wrote about five pages. This year I was successful! The whole point of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is to write 50,000 words during the month of November. The whole idea is quantity and not quality, the quality comes later when you sit down to edit it, but that doesn’t happen in November. During November, you have to tell your inner editor to take a backseat for the month.
I am so happy that I persevered and finished writing my novel this year, it was a lot of work, but it was worth it. And I had so much support from Dave, my family, and my friends, it helped a lot as did my local Biggby Coffee. Somewhere, maybe about a third way through the month, I was unable to write at home, I would get distracted by the internet or stuff around the house. I was most productive when I was out at a coffee shop, mostly Biggby, but once I went to Sweetwaters and Espresso Royale.
The novel I wrote is called Drowning in Flames, it’s a fantasy story that I’ve had bouncing around in my head for years now. I’m already looking forward to diving in and work on the quality now that I’m done with the quantity. I am unsure if I will do NaNoWriMo again, I had a good time, but as of now I have no idea what I would write. We’ll see!
