This past weekend, we enjoyed brunch at Grange Kitchen & Bar with my parents. We both had a Living Social coupon, so it worked out perfectly (and it was a great deal too!). The coupon was for two brunch entrees and two drinks, either coffee, juice, or a cocktail, guess what we went with?
I ordered the One & Done, which was a cognac-based cocktail similar to a Sidecar, but it included apple brandy. It was very good and quite strong, one and done is right! Dave had the Bourbon & Bubbles, which was bourbon, champagne, and peach bitters. It was garnished with a brandy soaked cherry. His drink was very good too, he preferred his over mine and I probably liked them both equally. My mom got a mimosa and my dad ordered a Bloody Maria, which is like a Bloody Mary but with tequila instead of vodka. It also had the addition of extra spice. It was made with McClure’s Pickles bloody Mary mix which ended up being a bit to pickley for him.
For our entrees, I ordered the Grange breakfast poutine: two over easy eggs on duck confit poutine and Dave ordered the Brioche french toast, which was served with blueberry compote and local maple syrup. Poutine is a popular Canadian dish, basically gravy and cheese curds over french fries. It’s becoming very popular here in the states and several restaurants in Detroit are serving poutine. The poutine at Grange was very rich and velvety, it almost needed something either sweet or acidic to go along with it to cut the richness. Nevertheless, it was delicious and I was glad to have to opportunity to try poutine as well as duck. And bonus, the cheese curds were goat cheese curds. The french toast was also very good.
My mom ordered the buttermilk lemon pancakes which were served with sausage and local maple syrup. The lemon flavor was subtle and not overpowering. And the pancakes were nice and fluffy.
My dad ordered the Grange Breakfast which included eggs (he had them over easy), house made bacon, and yukon gold potatoes. He really enjoyed his breakfast as well.
Overall, everything was delicious and I would definitely go back for brunch. There was a lot that sounded good to me: buttermilk fried chicken salad, fried egg sandwich, goat cheese and summer vegetable omelette, brunch burger, duck confit hash, and breakfast BLT.
