After we shopped for some vinegar, we headed over to Nico & Vali Italian Eatery for dinner on recommendation from my parents. Nico & Vali is a small casual restaurant the offers both sit down as well as a deli and carryout. Their menu has many sandwiches and salads to choose from along with pastas, pizza, and small plates.
I ordered the Muffalatta Panini which is a sandwich from New Orleans made from mortadella with capicola and melted provolone cheese topped with a marinated olive and pepperoncini spread on chiabatta bread. It was very good and very filling. I ate half and took the rest home. It was served with homemade potato chips.
Dave ordered my dad’s favorite, the Nico Burger, a 1/2 pound Angus burger with Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, tomato, arugula, and sundried tomato spread on a brioche bun served with homemade potato chips. I took a taste and it was absolutely delicious! Right up there with our favorite burgers at the Red Coat Tavern, The Twisted Rooster, and Arbor Brewing Company.
Nico & Vali only offers beer and wine, and both of us were in a mood for a cocktail so we headed over to Compari’s and pulled a seat up at the bar. I ordered a Key Lime Martini made with Malibu Rum, key lime liqueur, and pineapple juice with a graham crack rim. And Dave ordered the Gentleman’s Martini which was Ketel One Vodka, Hendrick’s Gin, dry vermouth, and blue cheese stuffed olives. My drink was very good, good lime flavor and nice and creamy. Dave wasn’t too crazy about his, the gin was a little bit too prominent a flavor.
Then we continued with our impromptu progressive and headed over to Yogurt Palooza for dessert! Yogurt Palooza is a frozen yogurt shop where you have several choices of frozen yogurt and lots of topping, it’s self-serve and you pay by the ounce. I got New York cheesecake frozen yogurt with crushed Oreo, Reeces Peanut Butter Cups, Heath Bar, and hot fudge. And Dave got Dulce de leche frozen yogurt with crushed Oreo, brownie bits, cookie dough, Reeces Peanut Butter Cups, Butterfinger, and hot caramel. It was really good, I hadn’t had frozen yogurt in forever. It was hard to decided what to get!
