Dave and I like to make cocktails at home, sometimes it’s as simple as Coke and Captain Morgan and other times the drink involves several different liquors, so we have quiet the stash of cocktail ingredients (note: that photo above is from Cliff Bell’s not our liquor cabinet!). Two of our favorite liquor stores are both in Livonia: Showerman’s and Wine Castle.
We tend to go to Showerman’s more often because the majority of their liquor is on shelves rather than behind the counter so it’s easier to browse. They have a great selection of hard liquor, wines, and beers along with common mixers and mixes. The service is very friendly too.
Wine Castle is near our favorite Biggby Coffee and Joe’s Produce, so it’s a bit more convenient to pop-in for something. They also carry a couple of items that we can’t find at Showerman’s including Pineapple Upside Down Cake liqueur (a Michigan product) from Piece of Cake Liqueurs. They have a huge selection of beer especially local micro brews, you can even build your own 6 pack. The staff is very knowledgeable about all of their products. We got a great recommendation a while back for Scrumpy Hard Cider, we loved it. In addition to hard liquor, beer, wine, and the usual mixers and mixes, Wine Castle also carries some milk products from Calder Dairy, some snack food items and home brewing supplies.
I’m thinking that I might do a future post about setting up a bar at home with what supplies I would recommend for a bare bones bar, basic bar, and more intermediate bar. Interested? Let me know in the comments.
