You think for the 200th post on this blog, it would be about Michigan, but no, I wanted to write about one of my favorite book series, Vorkosigan Saga. I just started to reread the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga, Cordelia’s Honor, by Lois McMaster Bujold. It’s a great series and long, which is even better! The books are jammed packed with action, adventure, mystery, humor, and even some romance. The characters are great, the settings are interesting, and they are just plain awesomely written. Can you tell I highly recommend them? Yes, they are science fiction. Yes, they take place in outer space. But don’t let that deter you from at least reading a few of them. I hadn’t really read any science fiction before I read this series and I LOVE them, so maybe, just maybe you will too if you have an open enough mind to take the plunge and try them.
When you Google or look up Lois McMaster Bujold on Amazon, it can be kind of confusing what order to read the series in because some of the stories were release separately and some in omnibus editions. So below is my recommended reading order:
- Cordelia’s Honor (combined book of Shards of Honor and Barrayar)
- The Warrior’s Apprentice
- Borders of Infinity
- The Vor Game
- Brothers In Arms
- Mirror Dance
- A Civil Campaign
- Diplomatic Immunity
These two books are in the same universe as The Vorkosigan Saga, but deal with other characters:
- Falling Free (I recommend reading this before Diplomatic Immunity)
- Ethan of Athos (read anytime after Cetaganda)
Are you a big fan of series? Do you like to reread books? Do share! And please let me know if you give The Vorkosigan Saga a try.
