Since Dave and I were still dating, we’ve wanted to do a mini movie marathon with the films Rebecca and Dave. Rebecca has finally been released on Netflix, so on New Years Eve after 6 years of talking about doing it, we finally watched both movies.
Neither of us had seen Rebecca (1940) previously. It was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and is the only one of his films to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. We thought is was good (3 out of 5 stars). It had good suspense, but the story could have been better. I enjoyed Hitchcock’s Spellbound more. It was weird to hear my name said so many times during a movie and boy did they say it a lot! I tried Googling how many times it was said, but didn’t come up with it. I would estimate at least 100 times.
Both of us had seen Dave (1993) before and have always really liked it (4 out of 5 stars), so it was fun to watch again. Dave is about a man that impersonates the president after he suffers from a stroke. And as sad as that description sounds, it’s a very funny movie. Since the main character, Dave, is pretending to be someone else for the majority of the movie, his name is said infrequently especially compared to Rebecca.
There are a lot of name movies out there, I would highly recommend watching your own mini movie marathon sometime. Let me know what you’d watch in the comments!
