Supino’s Pizza
by Rebecca on November 29, 2011
A few weeks ago, while we were downtown shopping at the Eastern Market for Thanksgiving ingredients we stopped and had lunch at Supino’s Pizzeria. It’s been on our eating out wishlist for a while now and it was just featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. We kept it simple and ordered a small margherita pizza. We had to wait about 20 minutes, but we went early at around 11am on a Saturday, by the time we left there was a line out of the door and the wait was 30+ minutes.
I hope this doesn’t get old, but really and truly this was my favorite pizza EVER. It even beat out the fabulous pizza we had in Brooklyn at the famous Di Fara Pizza (but only slightly)! Dave still prefers Di Fara’s, but still really enjoyed Supino’s. And we both had to admit that downtown Detroit is a lot more convenient place to go for pizza.
Seating is at communal tables, which I’m not normally a fan of, but everyone at our table were foodies so it was fun to chat. I can’t wait to go next time and try some of their other flavors. On the day we were there, the special had butternut and acorn squash on it and it looked delicious.
