Last week, Dave and I had dinner at the Matador Restaurant in Taylor. I had been several times a few years ago with my parents, but Dave had never been so I added it to our Eating Out Wishlist. We each ordered a traditional margarita, they were good, not as good as Xochimilco’s or Tios, but still good. Their chips are tasty as is the mild salsa, very fresh tasting, but the hot salsa, while hot, didn’t have much flavor.
Dave had the pork tamales and I had the cheese enchiladas. We both got the chico size which is two items rather than three along with beans and rice. My enchiladas were good. Dave liked his tamales, they had good corn flavor and the pork was very moist but he didn’t care for the chili that topped them. This isn’t just at the Matador either, he didn’t care for it at Mexican Fiesta in Canton (a good restaurant too, the super tostada is excellent) either, he’d prefer plain tamales instead.
Overall our meal was good, but certainly not worth the 30 minute drive to Taylor. In that time, I’d rather drive to Detroit or Ann Arbor for Mexican food. If I’d want something quicker, there’s Old Mexico only a 5 minute drive from our house and is excellent.
