There’s a certain tree (stump) that I pass every day on my way to work. I don’t know its story. Why it was cut down, or when for that matter. What I do know is that this particular tree (stump) is growing into a new tree. The branches are at least 6 feet tall. Makes me ponder about such topics as courage, perseverance, and strength each time.
A tree cutter or perhaps a storm tried to tell this arbor “no,” but it refused to listen. I wonder about the family who lives in this house. Do they share my feelings? Do they nurture this tree? Are they thinking about chopping down these new branches or even removing the stump and roots altogether? Or do they, too, find joy in its overcoming? I like to think they do.
This tree is such a lovely example to all of us on not giving up. To you who’ve had a long winter or a series of storms, this tree is for you. Happy Spring. Don’t give up.
PS – One of my favorite picture books is called Our Tree Named Steve. You’ll find a very special tree within the pages. Pick it up for a pick-me-up.
