John King Used & Rare Books Store

by Rebecca on March 25, 2011

John K. King Used & Rare Books

After breakfast at Avalon International Breads, we continued on our Detroit mini-vacation and headed over to John King Used and Rare Books Store. Neither Dave or I had been before, but almost every time we drove by one of us would say we should check it out sometime. The store is very organized with lots of lists and maps of where things are located and the staff were very nice and helpful too.

This place is HUGE! There are four floors of rows and rows of used books and that doesn’t count their annex building (which we didn’t visit). I checked out the room of cookbooks, a little disappointed that they didn’t have much on canning, but Dave hit the jackpot in science fiction and was able to snag several older books that had been on his to read list for a while. The store is very organized, especially considering they have around a million books in stock! There were lists and maps all over the store to find your way and the staff was very nice and helpful.

For Grandma

I took this picture because this booklet totally reminded me of grandma. She listened to Bob Allison’s radio show religiously for years and often scribbled down recipes as she listened (not that she tried making any of them!).

Yes, it’s a great place for unusual books.
