We baked off our first pies in jars last night! And they were great! The crust, which I was a bit worried about, was nice and flaky. I think a little less processing would have made it a bit more tender, but I was still pleased with the outcome.
We placed the frozen pie jars (with rings and lids removed) on a cookie sheet in a cold oven. We then baked them at 375°F for 60 minutes. However, we did not account for cooling time as the pies came out of the oven at around 180°F! We stuck them outside in the cold for about and hour or so and they were perfect.
I’m not a huge pie eater, but I thought they were delicious and I didn’t even miss the a la mode! I’m definitely going to do this again next year, I just have to decided apple again? Rhubarb? Cherry? Pumpkin?
