I know what you’re thinking, but I’m not pregnant! This post was inspired by Melissa’s post on her blog Suburban Bliss regarding her new year’s resolution to nest.
With the state of the economy in Michigan and with foreclosures still on the rise, it would take a lot to sell our house, buy property and build our dream home. So why not make best of our situation here in Livonia? It’s not that we’re unhappy here. We love being close to Detroit and Ann Arbor, we’re close to our family and friends. Our house meets our needs, despite it not meeting all of our wants.
I’ve been collecting ideas and inspiration and saving them as bookmarks. Two of my favorite sources of inspiration are Nicole’s blog, Making It Lovely and Sherry and John’s blog, Young House Love. While neither of their houses are exactly my style (but whose is?), they’re so inspiring to get moving and to get stuff done around the house! As well as a good push to thinking creatively.
- Find closed DVD storage for underneath the picture window.
This is going to be tough, I want something long, but something not very tall. Maybe I could put two pieces together?
- New Rug
Maybe something from FLOR? With a bright pattern?
- Wall Collage
I’d love to make a collection of oversized letter S’s like these: 1, 2, 3, 4
- Hang bookshelves for cookbooks
I want something that would prevent the books from tipping over as most bookends seem to be very lame. Or maybe something different altogether?
- Move plaster fruit
from where the bookshelves are going to above the two windows.
Since we replaced the vanity, sink, and facets last spring, there’s not too much to do in here. A few decorative touches would be nice, like this baby head vase to replant one of my succulents in. New (matching!) towels would be nice too.
No suggestions here unless Dave wants to do something.
- Buy Bookcases
I’d like to sell the large armchair and armoire and replace them with bookshelves like the Billy bookcases from IKEA, I could even get one with glass doors and move some of the Goofy collection in there.
- Repaint Walls
Not sure what color, blue perhaps?
- Remove shelving
I have a huge Goofy collection and it’s collecting dust on 6 shelves.
- Buy a headboard
I’d like something mid-century feeling, maybe upholstered?
- Replace both dressers
Maybe these from IKEA or painting a garage sale/flea market find?
- Replace both nightstands
I have no ideas here. I’d like something with closed storage and small in scale.
- Find & hang artwork
This is cute, I’m sort of addicted to art prints, so I have a list of bookmarks a mile long.
- Buy a duvet cover and down comforter
Lots of ideas here: 1 2 3 4
Continuing going through EVERYTHING and get rid of stuff we don’t want or need.
- Clean out the front flowerbeds
trim the boxwoods & holly bush, remove hydrangeas bushes, replace wood chips
- Install new address numbers
- Paint front door
I’m thinking a nice bright royal blue.
- Replace storm/screen door
