I first found out about Blue House Ann Arbor in the Design*Sponge Ann Arbor City Guide. It was like fate! For awhile now I have wanted to take a photography class to learn how to use the manual settings on my Nikon D40 DSLR camera, but I didn’t want to invest the time or the money in a semester long class. Blue House offers many different types of workshops and I was pleased to find out that they offered photography workshops!
My sister-in-law, Karly, and my friend, Tiffany, joined me last Monday for a 3 hour ($30) Getting to Know Your Digital Camera workshop at Blue House. The workshop was taught by Monet of Miss Monet Photography and covered shutter speed, aperture, depth of field, ISO settings, in addition to the manual settings on our cameras (P, S, A and M). It was great, we were provided with a lot of useful information (but not too much, it was not overwhelming) and I learned a lot.
I’m looking forward to taking more workshops at Blue House. They offer workshops in sewing, knitting, screen printing, relief printing, ornament and jewelry making, and classes for kids. I’m really interested in taking the screen print class sometime soon.
In addition to education, Blue House also houses a gallery of local artists work and hosts special events. You can even rent space for private events and workshops. I highly recommend you check it out, it’s located right across the street from the Big House in Ann Arbor.
