My Favorite Michigan Restaurants, Ann Arbor Edition

by Rebecca on October 12, 2010

Tios

Arbor Brewing Company-Great food, great beer (according to Dave, I’m not a beer drinker), and a great atmosphere, Arbor Brewing Company has it all. Their menu focuses on all-natural, fresh, local ingredients and features several specials each month. My favorite is the drunken chicken sandwich with onion rings or garlic french fries. Their nachos and pierogi are also very good.

Zingerman’s Deli-I’ve been going to Zingerman’s Deli since I was a kid and I don’t think I’ve ever had anything there except #13 without Swiss cheese, which is a corned beef sandwich on rye topped with creamy coleslaw and Russian dressing. Their desserts are divine, especially their pecan blondies (which we had along with the black magic brownies as favors at our wedding). The homemade gelato is also excellent, but so is pretty much everything at Zingerman’s.

Seva-All vegetarian, all of the time! My favorites include the butternut squash enchiladas, so rich and creamy, and the pesto pizza sandwich. Seva has a ton of appetizers, entrees, sandwiches, salads, breakfasts (served all day!) to choose from so you may want to study their menu before going otherwise you may be there all night deciding what to order.

Pizza House-So many Pizza House memories from my time at the University of Michigan. They have fabulous pizza whether you are a fan of thin crust, regular crust, or Chicago deep dish and the choice of toppings is huge. They also make fabulous milkshakes in tons of flavors that you can mix. And they deliver…to 4 am!

Casey’s Tavern-Casey’s Tavern is located on Depot Street across from the Amtrak train station. They offer a special of the day along with a pasta special of the day and a Mexican special of the day. Tons of great sandwiches including a very good burger, my favorite is the deep fried artichoke hearts which is served with a nice zippy dipping sauce.

Tios Mexican Cafe-Tios is another favorite from my UofM days and it’s a favorite today. I used to always order the wet burrito, which is still very tasty, but my new favorite are the chile rellenos served with blue cheese coleslaw and really good cornbread. They also have terrific margaritas which are half off during their happy hour so it’s worth it to go a little early.
