Garden Update
by Rebecca on July 19, 2010
Here’s a little update on how the garden is doing. Besides the bugs that killed all of our green bean plants, we haven’t had too much trouble with insects. Rabbits however are another story!
Our poor sweet potato and pepper plants were de-leaved on several occasions. The sweet potatoes seem to be bouncing back now, but we’re not sure the peppers will amount to much. The darn rabbit even sunk his teeth into our first (and only) bell pepper!
We tried a liquid fence that was specially designed to keep rabbits out of the garden. All it accomplished was almost making us throw-up each time we applied it. It STUNK! And that’s an understatement. After several applications, we returned it to the store. Then we tried sprinkling blood meal around the garden and that seems to be doing the trick, at least for now.
The broccoli is starting to peak out.
Our jalapeno peppers are doing well, hopefully they’ll taste nice and spicy!
We’ve harvested a lot of pickling cucumbers (more than zucchini even!), soon it will be pickling time!
Our first (of many) butternut squash, aw…isn’t it cute?
And finally, The Beast! Our super sweet 100 tomato plant is getting ridiculously tall.
