Last Saturday, my husband, my cousin, and I enjoyed a lovely day kayaking along the Huron River. We rented kayaks from Heavner Canoe and Kayak Rental and paddled from their location in Milford through downtown, finally ending at their pick-up point on Dawson Road. Overal, the trek took us about 3.5 hours, including our lunch stop at a restaurant in downtown Milford. There are many restaurants to choose from or pack a lunch and have a picnic in the park.
For the route we chose, it cost $38/kayak (same price for a canoe, except that would provide transportation for two paddlers rather than just one) and it was well worth it for a wonderful afternoon in the “wilderness,” catching up with family, and getting in a bit of exercise.
We saw several turtles and lots of fish. On previous kayaking trips, including one with rentals from Skip’s Huron River Canoe Livery, we saw deer, muskrat, fish, and TONS of turtles. You’ll be surprised at how far away from the city you feel while floating down the river.
